PaperCut MF output differs from Reader Tool

Sometimes is the output from a Spider conected to a MFP with PaperCut MF installed different then the output when the Spider is connected to a PC.

E.g. this number 5d2a619a is written in Notepad when the Spider is connected to the PC, But PaperCut MF sees it like 3564326136313961.

A setting in PaperCut is available to read out the number correctly.

In the manual PaperCut MF Can you read about  Configuring Swipe Card Readers (chapter 7.2, starting on page 30)

Solution is: In PaperCut go to: PaperCut > Devices > Select Printer > Advanced Config. Add or Change the following setting: "ext-device.card-no-converter" with the value "ascii-enc". (Screenshot shows another value)

Standard Converters:

  • hex2dec
Convert a hexadecimal (base 16) encoded card number to decimalformat. Hexadecimal numbers usually contain 0-9 and A-F. This will convert “946EBD28” to “2490285352”.
  • dec2hex
Convert a decimal encoded card number to hexadecimal format. Thiswill convert “2490285352” to “946EBD28”.
  • ascii-enc
Unpack an ASCII encoded card number string. E.g. given the number“3934364542443238”, the ASCII code “39” is converted to 9, “34” -> 4, “45” -> E, with the entire number resulting in “946EBD28”.
  • javascript: <path>
    Advanced (read the manual)

It is possible to chain or pipeline converters by delimiting with a pipe (|). For example, asciienc|hex2dec will first unpack the encoded ASCII number then convert it to a decimal.
